FOST INNO project (Fostering tourism innovations system in Adriatic-Ionian Region) is financed from the Interreg V-B Adrion 2014-2020 program. The project is part of Priority axis 1 of the ADRION program – Innovative and smart region, Specific objective 1.1 – Support the development of a regional innovation system for the Adriatic-Ionian area.
Lead partner of the project is the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Opatija, Croatia. The project includes a total of 8 partners from the areas of Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one of the partners for the implementation of the project is the Department for Development and International Projects of Zenica-Doboj Canton. The project duration is 24 months.
The overall objective of the project is to improve the competitiveness of the Adriatic-Ionian region in the field of tourism, with an increase of the innovative capacities of sustainable tourism. An international Center for the Transfer of Knowledge and Innovation in Tourism of the Adriatic-Ionian Region will be set up within the project, where the experts from the field of tourism will work together on the development of innovative tourist products and services. The FOST INNO project also aims to network knowledge with the aim of developing a common methodology that will enable the creation of new tourist products, which will have a high degree of recognizability and authenticity for the Adriatic-Ionian region.
Within the realization of the project activities, the Department for Development and International Projects of Zenica-Doboj Canton has organized a number of events:
- May 23, 2018 – Workshop on the topic: An Overview of conditions in the area of the ZDC in order to prepare for the development of the Strategy for fostering innovations in sustainable tourism. It was concluded that it is of utmost importance to follow world trends and base development on the examples of Croatia and Slovenia.
- July 10, 2018 – Workshop on the topic: The presentation of the Strategy for fostering innovations in sustainable tourism of the Adriatic – Ionian region and the implementation of the access process. After the presentation, the Strategy was found to have good foundations for realization. A Focus Group was also organized, where participants were informed of the importance of the Adriatic-Ionian Innovation Center, which will be formed as part of the project FOST INNO, and Membership Agreements with 13 participants were signed.
- September 12, 2018 – The first thematic event was aimed at involving local participants in the network and encouraging their inclusion in the FOST INNO project, and just like other events, this one had a great response.
- February 28 – March 1, 2019 – Management Board Meeting. The activities and results achieved, and current activities were discussed. Further steps were taken in the realization of project activities, and the timing of the next meeting of the FOST INNO Management Board was agreed upon. Representatives of all 8 project partners attended the meeting.
The Department for Development and International Projects of Zenica-Doboj Canton will continue to implement the activities within the FOST INNO project in the forthcoming period, which will lead to improving the competitiveness in the field of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina and thus in the entire Adriatic-Ionian area, with an increase in the innovation capacities of sustainable tourism.
